Whan you cure/dry a sock blank; besided wasing or painting the ends do you wrap or cover the wood on the sides to prevent unwanted color changes ?

You shouldn't have to wrape the sides. You will be taking the outside layer of wood off anyway and the natural color will be under any discoloration you will get while it is curing.
