I was just given a what appears to be a Kentucky or pa rifle stock and am trying to find out correct barrel for it. OAL from muzzle cap to top of the butt is 57.5”, ramrod is 40.5, barrel channel from cap to where it beds in the back is 421/4, and to end of tang 45.5. It appears to be a percussion inset. Has single trigger and a brass grip in the shape of what I have seen on Thompson center rifles. Any help with proper barrel would be great

Need barrel channel width;
Usually measured to the nearest 16th" beginning with 13/16" or 7/8" or 15/16 or 1",?
If the barrel channel varies in width instead of being a straight line,, it may be inlet for a swamped barrel.
Also photo's will help a lot, of the full stock, tang and lock inlet,
Here is a list of common barrel sizes with dimensions if you select and click any single barrel, to help as a guide,,there are 5 pages in the link;

Thx for the quick reply. I’ll try to get some pics. The channel width is 15/16 all the way. The lady who gave it to me said she was pretty sure her husband had once had a green mt barrel in it. I’m suspecting it was a 42’ .45.

Hope these help

Cut a piece of thin cardboard to the exact size of the lock mortise and then find someone with a copy of Track of the Wolf's catalog. Their diagrams are scaled to exact size. Match one up to your template. You can already rule out any locks with a pointed tail.

Pretty sure it’s a L&R gibbons. Having hard time identifying trigger too. Thoughts?
