I found a Used GPR .54 flint that somebody made from a kit, at what seems like a reasonable price $150.00. The stock is alright looking but needs to be refinished. My question is how hard is it to remove the old finish. It has a real shiny finish, almost like laquer. The gun seems in really good shape overall, like it was hardly fired. Barrel looks like new. what do you think? Is this to much money for this gun. also what would I use to remove the old finish? thanks for your help.

You will have to shoot it to know if you got a good deal. Seems like a fair price to me, as long as you check the muzzle area and bore. I have seen some nice looking muzzleloaders in pawn shops and flea markets, but the bores were trashed. As far as refinishing I use a stripper(not the topless kind) available at Home Depot. Paint it on and it disolves the old finish. Be careful this stuff will burn your skin. Just follow the instructions. By no means PC but easy and fast to use.
