I use a light oil, like 3-in-1, and a good amount of wood wax.

"Rust never sleeps."

I used to use Hoppes Gun Oil but switched to Birchwood Casey Sheath after I read its label. After about a year of gathering dust I cleaned several of my Penn guns which had used the Sheath and noticed a very light coating of rust on the patches. Sense then I use a combination of Sheath (which gets into tiny places like breech plug threads) followed by a good coating of Johnsons Paste Wax.
I haven't seen a speck of rust sense I started using this method (but remember I live in AriZonie where the humidity doesn't get above 40% even when it's raining.
