Straight rifled?

I am a fan of the smooth rifle because I can do anything with it. While reading I saw what was called 'staight rifled' is there such a thing and what would be the benefits of it

Yup. Grooves run straight down the bore, no twist or spiral. I am not sure if any of the current barrel manufacturers offer these.
The theory is that the grooves gave fouling someplace to go rather than just building up shot after shot and constricting the bore.
I'm not sure what other advantages there might be, and I've never played with one so I'm also not sure that the fouling theory even works.

I had an antique New England rifle cut in such a fashion. .40 caliber it shot well at 25-50 yards.

I have a straight rifled rice .50 I haven't used yet. I also owned a antique Durrs egg fowling gun that was 14 bore with straight rifling. Straihht rifling was thought to help tighten up shot patterns.

They make modern barrel for ARs in straight rifling, WHY because then its not a rifle.
