Just bought myself a used Uberti Remington New Model Army .44. It's in great condition, however I can't remove one of the nipples. Broke my nipple wrench and it didn't move at all. I've soaked it in RP7, but I don't have a nipple wrench now and even when I get another one, I don't want to break it too! Any ideas?

Thanks in advance! Padre

You're on the right track by soaking it. If that doesn't work you can try heating it with a torch to loosten it.

sometimes you have to soak it for a couple of days....Thunder Ridge is a great place to get a GOOD nipple wrench...they advertise one that is said "not to break" .....take yer time...
I just fought with 3 nipples on a used Uberti I picked up. I had to soak the 2 days in WD-40
Once ya get them free..and cleaned up dont forget to put a little oil on the trheads before reinstalling them so they wont freeze up again.

you might try a socket from a 1/4" drive set, seems it's a 1/4 but maybe bigger will fit it. or maybe I modded one to fit I've got around here somere's.

Thanks everybody!

It's been soaking for three days now so I'll give it another go. Might try that wrench from Thunder Ridge too.

Kind regards to all,
Padre

Padre: To keep the cylinder from rotating while you try to loosen the nipple, I would suggest that you obtain two large drill bits of the same size that will fit into the chambers.
With these located in two of the chambers and then clamped into a vise they will hold the cylinder while you try to turn the nipple.

I can not recommend tightening a cylinder directly into a vise because of the danger of collapsing one or more of the chambers from the clamping pressure.

Good Luck!

Thanks Zonie, what a great idea!
I wasn't going to put it into a vise for that very reason, but hadn't thought of your suggestion for holding it. Well, it's out now; soaked it a little more, used Zonie's method of holding it, a new nipple wrench, and out it came!!
Thanks everyone,
Padre :)

I don't know if you can get it down under, but I have had good luck with Rust Eater. Auto parts stores carry it here.
