Hi everyone,

Just joined the forum and i'm kind of a newbie at this. I was talking to someone regarding some club shoot activities and he mentioned something about "Shooting out of the bag" for a type of primitive shooting class.

With all the questions i asked i forgot to ask what that meant. Does anyone know what is meant by that?

My guess is that means you carry everything you need in a shooting bag, with no shooting benches or tables allowed to all your "stuff" down on between shots, while loading or cleaning.

To do it really well, as when shooting against the clock, is really a learned skill.

I just ran a Primitive Biathlon, 1.75 miles on wood/rawhide snowshoes, engaging 9 targets at 4 shooting stations -- all "on the clock". That event was all done by "shooting out of the bag".

Tight groups. :hatsoff:

Shooting out of the bag is usually a trail walk type of shooting. However, Fort Sutter Muzzle Loaders did have an out of the bag shoot, really not a big deal, usually most clubs do not make new guys have all the stuff right away. Go check out a bunch shoots. By the way lots of good rendezvous in the Sacramento area in the spring.

Sac Valley Muzzleloaders. We have 3 guys who shoot out of the bag and 6 or so that shoot from the bench and use a table. It is laid back relax kind of shoot, sometimes we just eat lunch!

One of the clubs I shoot at is made up almost exclusively of serious target shooters with all the peripheral gear, gadgets and secret formulations that go along with it. Once a year we shoot the Fer-du-lac, from the pouch. Put the target at the 100 yd line. Walk out to the 75yd line, shoot, move back to the 50 yd line, shoot etc.

It's absolutely hilarious watching them drag all that manure a long. Dropping ball, patches, leaving loading rods behind, etc..

So, the target shooters are trying your game and it's funny to watch, I wonder if you crossed over to target shooting would they laugh at you? BTW, come to Grass Pass in July, we won't laugh.

I already shoot with 'em every month. They get a kick out of my spit patches. Some of them will be at Grant's Pass. I'll be at Barlow Trail.
