I went out this morning with my 20 ga. french fusil trade gun and sat in a duck blind for a couple of hours. A heron walked by about 10 feet in front of me just before daylight (they are protected here in Michigan). Saw a couple of muskrats playing in the pond. Just after light some wood ducks landed and were paddling around. I got one of them last weekend so did not bother them this morning, I was waiting to see if some mallards would show up. They didn't. After a while I moved to my turkey blind (we have a fall season). Just got settled in and a 6 or 8 point big bodied buck came jogging along. I moved a little and he heard me and stopped. I peered around a tree and he busted me and ran off. I called to the turkeys and about a half hour later they wandered in. Didn't come as close as I would have liked and looked like they were going to go the other way. They were on the fringe of the zone that I felt comfortable with, so I fired. They were just a little too far away.

Didn't make any meat, but felt it was a successful morning in the woods anyway.

the worst day in the woods is better than the best day at _______ (fill in the blank)

Years ago I had an uncle who taught me the difference between fishing and catching fish. The same holds true for hunting. You couldn't buy a better day's entertainment, not to mention sharpening skills by observing and seeing what you might do difference next time.

A good day
