Expecting my first handgonne in a couple weeks. It is a .50 cal. Anyone shooting a .50 have a good starting load to begin with? Never shot one before and wasn't sure how the loads would compare to a rifle. Appreciate any suggestions.

Nice! FFFg B.P. is recommended although FFg will do as well. If the barrel is as short as my .50, then I would recommend 30 grns and go from there to work up your load. This is a smoothbore, so you can either go with either a .495 bare ball or go smaller and use a patch.

I've had better accuracy with a patched ball.

Good luck!

Thanks for the info. I have plenty of .495 and .490 so that will keep me busy. Wasn;t sure on powder --- 30 sounds like a good start. Thanks
