Summer is upon us and was wondering if anyone had big plans? Anything going on muzzleloading wise, especially in Texas? The reenactments and campouts are pretty much done for the season (too hot), to begin again in October. As usual, I am sure, all 10-12 events I would like to go to will be held on the same three weekend or so this fall. Nobody plans it that way, it just seems to work out that after the long summer drought of reenactment activities, with the heat lasting through September, folks naturally want to schedule their festivals in October and early November. The beginning of October also saw the start of the Texas Rev, which ends in April at San Jacinto, so that calender is pretty much set by history.

I've rambled on enough in a feble (sp?) and transparent attempt to kickstart some action in the forum, but I am interested in what people do over the summertime. Also, I am taking the family to Vail, Colorado in June, any good places to see or things to do in the area? Any good muzzleloading shops there?

Well, Vail is in the beautiful Rocky Mountains and that can't be all bad. It is on I-70 and there is plenty to see, especially in ski areas, from Aspen towards the west side of the state through Vail, Copper Mountain, Keystone and Breckenridge as you run I-70 east to Denver. You can usually ride the ski lifts to the top of the mountains and get a great view. A lot of nice golf courses throughout that area. It has some good fishing just east of there in the Dillon Valley. Anything associated with the mountains (hiking, 4-wheeling, etc.)can be done all over the area. There is a black powder shop, Rocky Mountain Muzzleloading, http://www.rockymountainmuzzleloading.com south of Vail in Salida, CO. Can probably get there on a Colorado secondary road through some nice country.

Thanks. Never been there, but my girls wanted to see mountains and I could trade in the timeshare for Vail, so that is where we are going. Wish it had been Telluride but there were no vacancies.

I don't know how much time you have there, but Telluride is not all that far and a great location to visit. Keep one thing is mind: Vail is expensive; probably one of the most expensive ski resorts in Colorado.

Fortunatly we have a place with a kitchen. Always heard it was expensive, but the kids just like put put golf and the wife is real reasonable (low maintenance). Vail is a money risk but we should do OK.
