Went out this past Saturday, it was disappointing. Trader Area had shrunk to 13 Traders. Heard they had only 150 registered shooters. Was hoping there would be powder for sale, it was not.

Worst News was finding out Chuck Hearn had died in November, he was a Past NMLRA President who support the Phoenix Shoot. Chuck was only 66. RIP Chuck.

Folks do not post about Phoenix because of you.

If you wanted to buy powder is was there, you just have to be a member of the NMLRA, it was an NMLRA shoot.

In past year befor Don from Arkansas quit coming to Phoenix with Powder for sale, those powder sales were a win, win deal for the NMLRA. As I know 110% for sure for ever pound of powder Don sold the NMLRA got a small donation per pound of powder sold.

Sadly the NMLRA has not found a replacement powder trader to fill Don spot as the shoot powder man.

So Richard rather than criticize the truth, maybe you can fill us in on your Phoenix expierence. Why not post photo of you view of the crouds at the Western?

BTW are you sticking around for the Ben Avery Outdoor Expo at month end? You could be one of the 40K expected weekend visitors at this years Expo.

We really do get tired of you doggin the NMLRA,
:dead: Give it up.
I'm no huge fan myself, but I can let sleeping dogs lie.

The man from Arkansas had his license pulled by the ATF, he could not return, poor record keeping on his part, lost his license.

Previous person(s) who were to deliver B/P did not supply it.

“Sadly the NMLRA has not found a replacement powder trader to fill Don spot as the shoot powder man”

Belong to the NMLRA, order from the NMLRA and you can pick up it at Ben Avery range from the NMLRA.
Really seems simple to me.

Nope.

Went to shoot, not to a photo trip.

Did not help with the Arizona highway Department shutting down the high to Ben Avery for 2 days.

Time for everyone to get a Snickers !!!Slambing is best done off Forum ,, on PM's..

I was there and had a nice time.

Yep, each time Pennypincher posts about the WNS it is negative, many years in a row.

I had a nice time for 8 years in a row and will be back next year, and no negative posts about the event from me.

You been there?

I went down there on the Wednesday and walked through the traders row. I have to say there was more interesting stuff for sale there than I could have found anywhere else I know of in AZ. Some nice rifles to look at too. I guess I will have to join NMLRA and get in on that once a year powder shipment. That sounds like a winner. I was kind of hoping there would be some for sale there, but there wasn't.

The expo BTW is this weekend, tomorrow, 3/28/2015, and Sunday 3/29. I would not expect out of town people to stay and help with something like that. It gets expensive staying in Phx in the tourist season. For those who came from the Northeast, though, I'll bet they enjoyed it. The weather was fantastic, and we had had enough rain to make the desert green and the flowers were starting to bloom. I think the blizzards were still hitting the East then.

Last time I went to the Western to check things out was nearly 20 years ago and they had a primitive camping area that was pretty cool. I was disappointed to see nothing but motorhomes there this year. If the primitive campers were there, I didn't see them or a sign to point to them.

History is a wonderful bench mark for measuring things. I went out to check out my first Western National in 1998, so that is about 17 years ago. Richard has been going eight years so he never saw it when Trader Row was in excess of 80 Trader strong. My take on Richard is he is a hard core muzzle lading paper puncher from East of the Mississippi who is into winning $3.50 Shooting Medals.

Now Mr. Native Arizonan you are correct that at one time a Primitive Camp with Teepees, and many Period Correct Campers who were doing the pre 1800 life style thing were in the Primitive Camping Area. Plus there were a lot of blanket traders in the primitive area. Those folk quit coming years ago. Reasons are many but IMHO the paper puncher row them away. BTW Those folks also entered the Primitive Shooting Events, Primitive Bow & Arrow Events, and Knife & Hawk throw.

My advise to you is if you need Powder order it delivered to your home, and get a case as if the anti gunners have their way Real Black Powder could be history. As America's biggest consumer of BLACK the U.S. Navy is going to hi tech rockets, and missiles, and the BIG BORE BLACK POWDER GUN are being retired.

Back in 99 the NMLRA had a Membership Drive called 9 in 99. It did not get support very well by the members, so they did 2 in 2000, and that was a failure also.

Since I live in Phoenix NMLRA Presidents, and Past Presidents have been saying Next Year to the Members, & Traders at the Winter National aka Western National , but the Winter that is now the Western continue to shrink.

Speaking of shrinking in 2000 the Western had like 400 Registered Shooters, and over 80 Traders. In 2015 it had under 200 Registered Shooters, and Saturday when I was out at the Western I counted 13 Traders.

IMHO the NMLRA runs the Western like a Mickey D's Franchise that is located right across from Ben Avery Main Gate. But the building is windowless, painted black and there is no sign age or golden arches. The owners keep asking when they are not selling Big Mac's, Fries, McMuffins, etc., etc. Hate to tell um folk don't know there is a Mc Donald's in that PLAIN WRAP BLACK BUILDING.

BTW ADOT or Arizona Highway Department does what it does when it want to and could careless if there is anything going on a road people travel by Ben Avery.

Sooner or later roads return to normal, and traffic moves. Kind of like being on the road Friendship, and a Semi Flips. I am sure the Indiana State Cops are going to do an investigation, before opening the road, and have folks drive over evidence.

Next thing Richard will complain about is the weather in Phoenix in March, yes it is always windy, and yes some years it rains. Complain to GOD, as God not the State of AZ control the weather. Thus it is called an act of god.
