I finally made it back to visit Sutter's Fort after a hiatus of over 40 years, and have to say the place is well worth a visit if you're anywhere near Sacramento, California.

Doc Arroyo the gunsmith and Sparky the blacksmith made the visit for me. I was surprised at all the muzzle loaders in evidence. Doc has quite a collection in his gunsmith shop (and would have more, but the state decided they were too valuable to leave there). You can walk up to a wall gun and take a good look. And of course cannon.

Sparky's blacksmith shop is excellent.

Glad ya had a good time. Hopefully you can get back, and I can find a bit more time for you!

Ifn any of the rest of you folks are going to be in the neighborhood, give me a hollar. I would sure like to show you around!

Doc

I have been to the mill, but not the fort. A trip up CA route 49 is a great way to treat your kids on summer vacation. Mine loved it! :hatsoff:

That's one of my favorite vacation loops. Starting in L.A. (home), up the 395, visiting places like Lone Pine, Mammoth, Donner pass, then down the 49. Sometimes I go to Lassen, Shasta, Burnt Lava Flow or up into Oregon for a spell first, then back down. Everywhere I go, is nicer than L.A. and I am always sad when I get home.

Somewhere, there are IT jobs up there... Just gotta find 'em.

Heck, most anyplace is better than L.A. There have to be jobs for ya here in Oregon. And we don't have a State sales tax, and restrictive gun laws.

Or you can move to Washington, which has no income tax and do your shoppin' across the river from Vancover, in Portland.
