I was reading the muzzleloader terms in the above section and came to the word "swell" as a protruding spot on the fore stock for the shooter to grip.
Now I'm very familiar with the swell on the Brown Bess Musket and was wondering if their are other original guns with this "swell"....Mark
 
The guy who made my fowler put a "swell" in mine. He said it was fairly common on fowlers/muskets. I haven't researched it myself, but I have no reason to doubt him.
