Swivel Breech Pistol

I recently was able to obtain a swivel breech pistol from Leonard Day to match a rifle he made in 1979. The rifle is a tack driver so I can't wait to shoot the pistol.
Does anyone have an idea of when the swivel breech concept came about? I have not been able to find anything on the internet.
