I have an opportunity to buy a T/C .50 Hawken rifle. It is atleast 5 years old if not more, but in great shape. The owner said he bought it used and had it for 5 years. Shot numberous times as a deer rifle, but never in the rain, snow, etc. The wood is awesome and so is the lock and metal. Bore looks good too. It has the brass furniture like the patch box, buttstock brass, and trigger gaurd. Comes with the loading rod also. How much would you pay for this. The guy is asking $200. I am gonna offer $150. Good deal or am i being too cheap offering less?

IMO, $200 is more than reasonable for a nice TC Hawken.

They are well made widely known rifles and if it were mine and I was selling it I would be offended by an offer of $150.

The last one I sold 6 years ago I asked $250 and I felt at the time I was giving the buyer a very good deal. So did he.

Since then, prices have increased so if you can get a nice TC Hawken for only $200 count your blessings and buy it. :)

Thank you for the input. I am supposed to go pick it up tommorow. I am selling an old 4 wheeler for $350 dollars and the buyer wants to give me $150 and the Hawken, essentially making it $200. I thought it was a good deal, just wanted to run it past everyone. I feel comfortable with the price, just wanted the best deal. I'll let you know how it goes!

$200 is a very good price for a TC Hawken in great shape. Most people don't find one in good shape for that cheap around here.

When I came home from Vietnam in 1970, one of the first things I did was go to the local gun shop and order a new TC 50 caliber Hawken. New price then was $225. The serial number is in the 3000 range. Believe that was right after they started making the Hawken. I have killed a few deer with it and loan it to a friend now when we go hunting and he took his first and only ML deer with the Hawken. I will will the Hawken to one of my children some day.

well, it didn't work out...guy said the 4 wheeler was not what he was looking for....after 15 emails and sending a ton of pics mind you. It's alright though, another will come along and i will own one of these fine rifles before long.

Sell the 4 wheel. Buy the rifle. Prices all over the board. I paid 400 several years ago for one I liked in almost mint. Saw a good .54 with scope and mount for 180 last week. Cash is more liquid.

I picked up a like new one at a gun show for $200. Fellow was selling it for his brother-in-law who bought it as a kit because he liked working in wood. Built it and just hung it on the wall. He must have really like working in wood since I can't tell it from a factory gun. Now, I thought myself darned lucky to score a nice T/C for that price. I don't think you will find them going any lower. Seeing as how you are exchanging pictures, though, I would suggest giving it a good going over in person.

Would have offered cash, but didn't have it. That was the whole reason of trading the 4 wheeler. Trying to sell it now though, and may pick me up one somewhere....or just wait until next year and buy a kit and put it together myself. That was the plan all along anyways. Just thought i could get it sooner. :idunno:

There will be more for sure...I see T/C Hawkes for sale alot on Armslist, as a matter of fact there are two on there now, a 54 percussion (250)and a 50 cal. flinter (350)Sell the fourwheeler..best to have cash on hand when trying to make a deal.
