Any one one give me the details on these guns ? I was told only 2000 were made ? Value ? , I found one that's mint shape the guy is asking $600 ,

it's basically a hawken with better bluing, fancy grade wood and silver colored hardware. has the cougar markin' on the barrel & a medallion in the stock. the ones I've seen look nice. I personally think 6 bills is too much but some people would gladly pay it. luck to ya & have a good'en, bubba.

I've seen them, and they do have beautiful fancy wood, but I could buy 2 or 3 regular Hawken rifles for the same money. If I had it, it would be a "Safe Queen". I'd be surprised if it gained much more value, unless the regular ones, take a big jump. The Cherokee and Seneca rifles, are the ones, that jumped in value. If you can afford it and want, then, what the heck. You'd have one of the nicest one's they built. I know a LGS that had a custom shop, "TC Hawken" with all blue hardware, thinned down fore arm, round ball barrel. It was unfired, and he was asking $900. for it. It's the only one like it that I've ever seen.

It is 'worth it' if it is mint, in box and with the manual that came in the box.

It is a nice rifle, but at the end of the day it is still just a T/C. Not that there is anything wrong with a T/C, my go to rifle is the .50 T/C Hawken in my safe.

Try and talk him down to $450.00 and let him work you back up to $525.00 max.

They made a 2 runs of I understood 5000 each, about 5 years apart...87' and 92' as I recall...one in .45cal, one in .50cal.
Top quality wood, pewter silver furniture and medallion, matching lock, and a standard blued barrel.
(made a 3rd similar run in '97 but called that one the Silver Elite with a stainless barrel and no medallion).
At one time I had 3 of them, picking them up in the $250-$350 range...later began converting them to Flint...resold them later still in mint condition in the $450-$500 range and that's been 12-15 years ago.
So $600 asking price today does not surprise me at all assuming it's also in mint condition.

I have a buddy that owns one and he will NOT depart with t. Its a definite tack driver. He shoot nothing but Goex 3f and PRB and has taken numerous elk. I did tell his wife if they ever got short n the house payment to call and we could deal.

I picked one of those up a few years back. It had been in a fire and the forestock had been charred up pretty badly. The barrel's bore looked like it had been washed and left to rust. It was cheap so I have kept it around thinking the parts might be useful. :idunno:

Yes, 600 Seem high but when T/C was still selling the sidelocks they were priced new around 600 in the brass...I have the cougar and plan on selling it to buy a custom rifle. My cougar is 99.9% I have the box, book all. I was going to start higher than 600. :hmm:

I bought one of the .50 caliber percussion Cougar's at an estate sale in 2011 for $236. It had beautiful wood on it.

If I had it you'd get it! I say save save save and KEEP it! How often do we reflect on what we had and want it back!

This is very true. I was lucky enough to sell a pedersoli muzzleloader several years back and find it for sale again at the same shop I sold it to 3 years later. Too much sentimental value attached to it, and I paid more for it than I sold it for, but the memory attached to it was priceless.

"when t/c was still selling the side-locks they were about 600 new in brass". that coupled with t/c's declinin' quality and increased quality/better prices of foreign competition are some of the reasons t/c no longer sells side-locks.

Yes, I pulled the Cougar out of the safe the other night and I did have second thoughts about selling it. I have been on and off this site over the years and you all have got me wanting a flintlock...You all made me swith to PRBs, lol And now I am hooked on getting a flintlock. If I could just convince my wife I need another gun.. :stir:

"If I could just convince my wife I need another gun.. "

THIS IS AN ADDICTION! :shocked2: Just get the gun, worry about the wife later, you WILL think of something! :haha:

When she looks at it, tell her it was one you've had in the safe along time and just drug it out. If she is like mine she won't know the difference.

Only if I had a little more mad money back She would not know the difference :hmm: I pulled that trick one to many times...Really she don't say much about my guns, I just have a hard time spending that amount of money just for me. :idunno: Early retirement gift to myself :hmm: I will end up with it sometime down this road.

Pedersoli muzzleloader Question. Cabelas has these guns in stock, are they good shooters? Kind of plain stock but not to bad looking. The price for the full stock ones are $650. I live 15 minutes from the cabelas store. Here on this forum men most likey have them, But I do not read these Postings everyday.
