I don’t know the details yet but I had gentlemen tell me he had one that he was thinking of selling. Says it’s in “good” condition

What’s the going price on these?

Really depends where you are looking to buy one. Private sale & Sparkitoff is pretty much dead on. If you looking at auction houses add about $200 to start on his number.

As Bent Sight mentioned cost/value of it really is a regional issue.
A T/C 54 Hawken is a 1" barrel. Not as common as the 54 Renegade.
Southeast and northern central plains areas have an abundance of trad ml's,, prices are lower.
Northeast, southwest and West command higher prices due to limited availability.
If your looking locally, Can you give us a hint?
The WWW is another ball game,, it matters.

If boker doesn't mind picking up a .54 caliber rifle from an out of state dealer or individual, some of us can beat the bushes for a good buy for him in our area.

Just make sure the lock works ok. TCs lifetime warranty has passed away due to lack of replacement parts. Seen many with broken flys and tumblers around here

If it has a crusty bore keep in mind that Bobby Hoyt can rebore and rifle it, I just sent him a Renegade barrel to get refreshed and a $125 money order to cover services and return shipping. All told I will be about $200 into a servicable Renegade.

As for lock, L&R RPL line of locks is well worth considering, they have flat springs rather than coil, and you can get parts for them as of now at least.

Speculation follows:

Since the guy does not know it is a "Hawken" he probably is not a ML shooter, or simply can not read what is printed on the barrel. HE probably saw a fantasy price and is hoping for the best on a rifle he stumbled into.

The ram rod is broken. The stock is over sanded, rounded of, and poorly finished. Based on condition it probably was shot with pyrodex and not cleaned well. I would not pay more than $100, and then strictly to flip it.
