I have a Thompson Center Hawken .50 Flintlock that I bought new at least 25 years ago. It still looks nearly like new and I used it in January to take a nice Deer. The problem is that after cleaning it and putting it away for a few months, like I have done many times before. It has now developed a crack in the stock that goes through the lockbolt and is 3 or 4 inches long. Is this something that might be covered by the T/C Lifetime Warranty?

Absolutely...it's a common problem in earlier guns...remove the barrel then ship the complete stock & lock assembly to TC's Service Manager explaining the crack...they'll send you a complete new stock assembly with all new furniture at no charge....did it for me twice back in the 90's. The new stock will also have the new "wrist strengthening" parts installed to prevent that crack...consists of a front tang 'bolt' that goes completely down through the stock and screws into the front part of the trigger guard to strengthen that whole center wrist region where so much wood has been removed.

And you'll also probably get the new, redesigned improved lock assembly at the same time.

I would call T/C first..
I had a Hawken's flinter in .54 cal..
With the same problem..
I was told to ship the whole rifle due to the stocks are hand fitted..
They gave me a brand new one stating it was easier than to have their gunsmiths replace it..

Here is a posting I put up on another site about a year ago:::::

I got to tell you guys this one. I own 3 T/C’s Traditional Muzzleloaders already, but did not have one in a .54 cal. Flintlock. In August I found and bought a T/C Hawken’s in .54 Flintlock used. I’ve been looking for one a long time and found this at a good price. After receiving it, I found a small crack in the stock and did not want to take a chance getting hurt shooting it. So I called T/C and explained that I would need a new stock and if I can buy one and please ship it so I can install it myself. Was told they don’t do that and I would have to send back the gun and they would replace it at no charge, due to their warranty policy. Was told it would only cost me the shipping to them and no other charges. I said OK , Heck a new stock for shipping cost , I can’t lose”¦.
Well , let me tell you, not only did it cost only the shipping cost for this stock problem,
They send me a brand new .54 cal. Flintlock Hawken GUN !!!!!!!! for the shipping cost”¦. I called them this morning and explained that I did not receive my rifle back and that it was a new one , She explained to me that it was easier to replace the rifle than to repair the old one..

Now That’s Great Customer Service !!!!!!!!

Was that problem only on the older Hawkens? Did the Renegades have that problem to?

It has long been a covered replacement. It is also the reason for my name. I tried to fix this problem, but kept making things worse. Strip it; call them and send it back ASAP as we are not sure of the future product support of the new ownership. It is not worth trying to salvage if they will give you another.

I understand that some early Renegades were also prone to cracks through the lock bolt hole. These often ran back toward the wrist.

While on the subject of cracked T/C stocks, I have one to ask about. It is an older kit rifle, and has a crack on the outside of the stock where the ramrod channel is. I am guessing this was from a wet ramrod. It has been this way as long as I have owned the rifle (another story), and doesn't seem to be hurting anything.
Do I have any claims at all about this? I really don't feel the company should be responsible for something like this, and I have heard that the kit stocks are not covered anyway. It is a pretty piece of wood anyway.
Thanks
Rods

They do not state that kits are covered, but TC has made good on these in the past.

As to the quality of the wood, that is a personal choice. It is a manure shoot as to what you will get in return.
