I got me a Hawken a can of Goex, some .490 round balls, some pillow ticking and some desire. What is a good starting point for a hunting load?

FYI...TC makes a free owner's manual for their firearms that has some good info in, load data tables in the back, etc.

Although there are lots of different charges and projectiles, my .50cal Flintlock loads for weekend plinking and deer hunting are as follows:

TARGETS
50grns Goex 3F
Any .015" plain cotton or .018" TC pillow ticking patches
Hornady .490

DEER HUNTING
90grns Goex 3F
Oxyoke Wonderwad
.018" TC pillow ticking patches
Hornady .490

70 grs 3f goex
.015 T/C pre lubed patch
hornady .490 ball

is mine hunting load....so ya got from 70 to 90 to work with to find out what yer T/C likes......bob
