A trip to the range today accomplished multiple tasks. I had previously coned the barrel of my .50 Hawken and checked groups and sights a while ago. Now I had added a Lyman peep that I found in the good 'ol parts drawer. Plus I had just cast a bunch of maxis from a T/C mold and was anxious to see how they performed. I left the factory sights on when I mounted the peep. All I had to do to sight it in was adjust the aperture until I was looking down the original sights. bad boys weighing within 0.5 gr of each other. Did it make a difference? Well my last groups with dried out Bore Butter didn't quite look this good. With no over powder wad this 5 shot 50 yd measures 1.25 in. I'm now a firm believer in weighing my ammo when practical.
