For those who wonder about T/C Hawken/Renegade Clean Out Screw, there is a good post with pictures on the sister forum, Modern Muzzle Loaders. The Modern Forum has lots of good stuff on Traditional, it's not just about Modern. Also there are some good buys there on Traditional things.

Should be a sticky here.

TC Hawken/Renegade Breech Plug With “Cleanout Screw” (How it was made)

Not 100% sure but I believe it's 8x32 and once you get it replaced forget it's even there and never touch it again. If's no more a 'clean-out' screw than those holes in your engine block are 'freeze-plugs'. they're just by-products of the manufacturing process and they had to call them something so they called them clean-out screws. TC got so tired of fixin' boogered up holes they started drillin' the flash channel from the other side and millin' the screw off flush with the side of the breechplug.

Why not get in your car from the passenger side door? It’s there, why not use it?
Ha! Ever notice in the old black and white films how the actors would both get in on the passenger side many times? Don't know why they did that but you see it very often in the old films.

Bubba’s right on both counts. Stick a new one in there, file it flush and pretend you never heard of such a thing.
I restored an 1861 rifled musket to firing condition by going to war with a clean out screw. It literally was the thing between making the gun shoot or not! Once I got the hammered over screw out, I was able to clear the debris from the touch hole. I tried everything to fix that problem before taking out that screw. You can see the new screw in the refaced bolster in my avitar.

The same reason cars and houses have more than one door and boar hogs have teats; just in case!

Well yes, there are always exceptions... but for most of us it’s not really needed in the daily course of things.

If that's the way you think, why not just seal up the passenger door since you already have the drivers side door to use.

If l was the only one ever rode in the car l’d do exactly that.

The clean out screw is not just a normal allan head screw. If you put a regular one in it will.be too long for some nipples. The platinum lined nipples have longer threads. A clean out screw is flat on the end. If you use a set screw type it will come into contact with the nipple.
