My .45 percussion cap T/C was inherited. It came with peep sights installed, but the sight shown in the top photo was still in place.
My question is, does this look like the standard rear sight for what is most likely an early model kit gun?

The reason I ask is I have a T/C Hawken -flintlock-that I purchased some time in the middle 2000's and it has a sight marked clearly as TC. See bottom 2 photos.

The first sight is an early TC Hawken sight and the second is a smooth-sided sight from when they started using sights made by Weaver that were marked Thompson Center.
Thanks Bubba. The early version was a kit gun I believe-the serial number starts with a K. It belonged to my Dad, he put peep sights on it, left this sight on and replaced the front sight. I took the front sight back to the original- Dad was good about saving original parts, but the rear sight didn't match the one I had so I just wondered. I can't see the peep sights very well except in very good light.

If you want to use the gun for hunting just remove the aperture and look through the threaded hole as a "ghost" sight. Or you could also drill out the hole in the peep if it's fuzzy until you see clearly.

A couple months ago I bought an unfired TC Hawken with that first sight on it.
I disliked those front and rear sights so much I almost sold the rifle.
After seeing a couple of Idaholewis’s videos I installed a set of Lyman sights and now that rifle is really fun, almost as fun as the others I’ve built by myself.

I took the rifle to the range today and at 25 yards it was hitting about a foot high. I cranked the rear sight down about as far as I could and it was still 4 or so inches above POA. I noticed the sight was not completely bottoming out, so I unscrewed the adjustment and looked inside. There is a spring that was under tension at the bottom of the sight. It would not compress any further. I took it out, bottomed out the sight almost to the barrel and was about right. Question is, did TC sell different height springs for these original sights? I would like to put the spring back.
