I can verify what Zonie has stated just by felt recoil alone. There is definately a very noticeable difference between 777 and black powder. One day I'm going to fire up my chronograph and record some test results. Unfortunately I'm going to have to buy some more 777 to do this as I gave mine away because I really didn't care for it. My feelings and group sizes (at least in my rifles) show if you use a black powder substitute that Pyrodex Select is superior to 777.....and cheaper.

Volumetric measures of 2F BP are the standard...ie: 100grn volume of BP weighs 100grns weight.

TC's load data charts list:

180grn PRB for the .50cal Hawken is 50-110grns of Goex 2F.

275-320grn maxi for the .50cal Hawken is 80-110grns Goex 2F.

Dump the 777 and use 120 grns. of FF BLACKPOWDER, and a PRB. If you have a muzzleloader use blackpowder!

I have a muzzleloader ( actually 7 ) and I don't use blackpowder in any of them. Triple 7 is easy for me to get and works just fine. I can find no compelling reason to switch.

My TC Hawken 50 cal also prefers 90 grs (vol) of triple seven 2F with Hornady 385 gr Great Plains bullets. When the snow melts and it gets warmer I'm going to try PRB loads next.

Well I have 25 not counting the 7 BP revolvers, and I think if you bother to have a muzzleloader you should go all the way and shoot only BLACKPOWDER.

75 yards is a close shot for a bigbore rifle. I would lower my projectial weight and/or powder load for those conditions and I like the roundball idea too for those kind ranges...........John
