The T/C rear sight base for ML are flat on the bottom and a small slight rib on the left and right of the sight base to align the base on the barrel. The T/C sight base for a T/C Contender is curved on the base of the sight to fit the pistol barrel.

The top part of the rear sight(s) for T/C ML and Contender are interchangeable. There are differences between the T/C Contender rear sights height depending on which caliber of the barrel is/was and what the barrel length of the pistol.

I really do not like the later rear T/C ML sights. Does anyone have a source for T/C Contender rear sights?

roundball,

Thanks.

A lot of people take the rear sights off Contender barrels and mount scopes of them. I was hoping someone might know of a site like this that specialized in Contenders where I could buy rear sights. I really did not want to have to pay retail for sights.

T/C made a Contender Silohuette sight that is similiar, but far superior to the one on the Cleland 40. You had to mill the curve off the base and then just screw it on. They now cost about 3 times of what they were, if you can find them.

Again thanks,

When you refer to a TC sihouette sight on a Contender, are you referring to the saddle sight they used to offer for their 10" octagon barrels? The "best" silhouette sights made for the TC Contenders was made by Wichita (with 4 presets for 4 different yardages). Owned several of both back in my IHMSA competition days, preferred the Wichita by far, but only have a couple of TC saddle sights laying around now. Saddle sights commonly sell for $25+ now, and the Wichita (good luck finding one) for at least 2-3 times that.

Is it easier to buy a used Contender sight and have to mill it for a flat base rather than just buy a sight for the ML? And find one the right height? Not IMO. Relacement or aftermarket sights are just not that expensive from either TC themselves or any number of mail order houses.

But, if you want to stay with buying a "take off" Contender rear sight, you might try GBO, GGVG, Specialty Pistols or the TC Bunch forums. They all have farily strong Contender followings on them and sights come up for sale on them from time to time. But I doubt you'll save any money buying them instead of a sight made for a ML.

Walks Alone,

I had a set of the saddle sights and let them go with a barrel, dumb.

The sight I am referring to, has a dial on top of the sight which has numbers/graduations and indents (cuts) into it so you can dial in your distances. When I bought the sight around 1996 or so it was $65. I had the base milled to go on a GM 15/16” barrel.

I was at a shoot recently and a guy came up and said I’ll give you $250 right now for the sights. He said that the hard to find and he saw 2 in Phoenix and they were $265 each.

I have a lot of T/C M/L bases and I just do not like the later T/C M/L rear sights.

I have scoped a number of Contender barrels and I move the rear sights from them to M/L barrels. I need 2 Contender rear sights to complete what I am trying to do.

I am kind of finicky about sights. I like Lyman globe front sights and rear Contender sights.

If you check the Lyman globe front sight inserts, they are different heights!!!! Does make a difference.

Sounds like the Wichita silhouette sights made for Contenders, with a wheel on top - although these only had 4 indents that were each adjustable so you could zero the sights to your load for each of the 4 distances shot in IHMSA big or small bore. They worked very well on the Contenders I shot IHMSA with, using position 1 for 50y, 2 for 100y, 3 for 150y and 4 for 200y. Used them on big bore mostly on barrels that I was shooting light loads with heavy bullets (30-30, 30 Alaskan, 309JDJ, 375JDJ, etc). When the Encore first came out I got two 7BR barrels (and a XP-100 in 7BR) that all shot my handloads so flat that I never had to change my sights between the 50-200 yard silhouettes on any of them. So ended up selling all my Wichita rear sights. I think I got something like $75-$100 for each of the rears only about 8-9 years ago, so they could easily be much higher now if you ever find one. I also used Wichita globe fronts with the rears. But I've used the Lyman globes too and still have one of them on a TC Hawken with a venier tang rear for long range black powder target shooting. I never cared much for the TC Contender saddle sights though and always replaced them with something else on the 10" barrels. Same with most of my longer TC barrels as most are wildcats for long range shooting and wear scopes. Why I have a couple of saddles and a bunch of Contender sights in storage. But when I sell a TC barrel, I include the sights that came on it with it instead of the scope and mounts. So that's why I keep them.
