Like many of us, I can trace the beginning of my love affair with black powder to a T/C Hawken that I purchased when in high school to hunt the PA flintlock hunt. This rifle was beautiful to me for almost 20 years until I started attending the Dixon's fair and built my first longrifle. Then the "ugliness" of the modern varnish finish and overall clunky architecture became apparent. I later won a T/C Renegade at the Southern Vermont Primitive Biathlon. Using the skills I gained during my longrifle build I performed a facelift on both of these guns to make them look a little more traditional. I'm posting some before and after photos of my Renegade facelift to show the work done. The major work was:

- strip the urethane and refinish with BLO, with 1/3 wax (BLO/Turpentine/beeswax) top coat
- strip the faded blue from the barrel and steel furniture and brown all of the parts with LMF browning solution
- reshape the front of the lock panels, that for some reason did not curl around the end of the lock
- slim the forearm to change the flat top to an edge that curls to meet the barrel
- inlet flush the key escutcheon that was sitting on top of the stock
- cut off the appendage hanging from the trigger guard

This is my first attempt at posting pictures so bear with me.

It was a fun project and my son now outshoots me and my longrifle with the "new" Renegade, and it's a .56 cal smooth rifle to boot!

Oops! I guess I didn't post the pictures correctly. Will try to fix it.

Looks like the links now work. Is there any way to get the pictures into the post using a service other than Photo Bucket, such as Snapfish - which I currently use for family photos?

When you are making your post, there is a small icon that has a picture in it. By selecting it you can put the pictures file name into the window and it will show up as a picture when someone opens the topic.

I would suggest that if you are going to post a lot of pictures like you did that you just insert their filename like you did.
The reason for this is a lot of people here on the MLF are still using dial up modems and when they try to open a topic with a lot of photos it can take forever for it to load on their computer.

You've done a lot of things that I am currently in the process of doing to my Hawken. I hope mine comes out as nice as yours did, Nice job! Thanks for sharing your pictures.
