Where can I buy a Verneer style tang sight for my TC Hawken Rifle? I have seen them in pictures but can not seem to find any for sale anywhere. How well does mounting the sight to the tang work?? It seems like there is a possibility of movement since the tang is separate from the barrel.

If you're talking about the TC factory peep they are no longer made but do pop up on ebay now and then.

Track of the Wolf has what you are looking for. They go for under $80. I have one on my T/C Hawken & it works very well.
I have one of each, the ladder type vernier sight and the hunting tang peep sight. They mount very solidly, they don't move at all. You may have to drill and tap one hole in your tang, depending on when your rifle was made, because some have 3 holes in the tang, and other T/C tangs have two. Any gunsmith can do this easily if you don't have the access to the tools. I am just starting to play around with primitive/non-adjustable sights. My eyes have trouble with the peep sights. Depending on the ranges you wish to shoot these may work for you.
I was going to get the mid range for the .40x16" twist GPR but the geometry was not good for close range without an extra tall front sight. So, I'm still looking for that perfect tang peep.

It is hard to beat the Lyman 57 peep sight. Very easy to adjust and won't move unless you move it. You can get a large Williams appeture (bigger than the one that comes with it) and use the small one for target work. The cap box is a great place to store the hunting appeture.

Never tried full-length because I haven't needed it. Bedding the tang and the back 6" or so of barrel has done all I could ask of it. As an aside, all goes best if you use a tiny bead of epoxy to join the tang to the barrel prior to bedding them at the same time. After bedding, the bead pops easily with a little bit of heat.

I am also looking for a Tang peep, not the one from TC but a Verner ladder type that slides up and down. Thinking short range or medium range type, Which one can I buy (exact name and model number)that will fit the holes in my Lyman 54 great planes hunter?

The problem I ran into was how high the aperture was at it's lowest setting. Would have worked with another quarter inch or so of front sight. Probably should have gotten Lee Shaver to install his sight on the tang and shot it at two hundred for a few years before worrying about the front sight.

It has to be a rifle to rifle thing. Some are tight as a drum. On the one I bedded you could click the barrel back and forth in the stock, so that one was really obvious. And that was after the tang had been fitted. In the late seventies my brother had to bed his .54 Renegade percussion to tighten up his 100 yard groups when using a ladder tang sight. Even though the barrel seemed tight in the stock there was an interaction there that bedding solved.
It has to be a special dedicated case for me to want to bed a TC barrel. Being able to swap them out is just too special!

By the way...
Was brain storming the other night on ways of adapting available components. Could that shorty adjustable rear sight supplied with GPR's be adaptable to tang mounting on the TC Hawken with an aperture added to the notch? :hmm:

I'm guessing, but just by looking I'd say it's waaaay too low unless your added aperture was pretty tall.
Haven't pursued the thought, but I've always wondered about the lowest of the Marble tangs for the GPR. To my eye, it would be close to right, but that's eyeball and not experience.

My theory is that a small triangular base would be used to bring it up to level to the elevation needed. A block with two screws and a dovetail or else modify the sight to screw to a block... something along those lines. Was thinking about trying an old TC rear sight and then noticed how short the GPR sight was.
Hmmm, I'm gonna go look at a rusty old TC barrel that might be a candidate for becoming a triangular block. Maybe the TC sight would be workable (was thinking it was too long).

Just came across something interesting the other day, perhaps for anyone chasing down the discontinued TC Hunter Peep. Go to this page and scroll about half way down to the USA 422. For the life of me that sure "looks" like the TC sight. It's more than original TC at $75, but less than I'm seeing the TCs going for used these days. Great news at any price if it's the same sight or similar.
