Tanning Leather

I have a question about tanning leather. Certain Sumac trees are used in tanning but are the common kind (I think its Staghorn Sumac) of any use for tanning? I see these everywhere here in Indiana. If so, what part is used and how do you prepare it? These have red berrys (bobs) on them in the fall.

When you get a chance go to braintan.com and check out Matt Richards site. There is a good section on bark tanning and also in the chat forums there are good discussions on sumac tanning. Never used it,but it's suppose to be good stuff. :thumbsup:
