The Flint smoothbore barrels that I use have an adjustable rear sight mounted on them, and the view of the rear sight notch often makes me try and find the front sight even when wing shooting, out of habit from the thousands of shots using a rear sight on rifles.
Removing the sight altogether did not produce good results when using shot loads, even when replacing the front sight with a very low one, so I re-installed both original sights.
However, "Arcticap" posted a tip of covering the rear sight blade with black tape and then just using the rear sight as an overall black object as if it was the top of a barrel rib, set the bead on top, etc.
Works fantastic...no distracting 'notch', quick target acquisition, etc..."Arcticap" wins the prize!!
