Does anyone know what degree the taper is on a violin key? I have access to some old reamers, but need to know the degree of taper if anyone could help out here
:hmm:

I can't tell you the amount of taper, in degrees, but I can tell you that the taper on a large violin peg is exactly the same as that on a #6 taper pin reamer. That is what I use to fit the peg in the spout. Most industrial supply stores can supply you with a reamer. Get the one with the straight flutes.

Not real sure on the taper, but you can go to this website www.musikit.com and email them or just buy a cheap 5 dollar violin tuner from them, get a block of wood and put a hole in it with each reamer you have and stick the tuner into each hole and see how it fits.

Or you can spend the 20-40 dollars and buy the correct size reamer for violin tuners. may even work for cello pegs.
