I have several original percussion shotguns, two doubles and a single barrel, halfstock 'fowler'. Both the doubles have tapered ramrods, and were intended to be that way, as the ramrod pipes get progressively smaller.
My question is this: The single barrel gun has had 'other' pipes soldered to the ramrod rib. they are obviously not the originals from this gun. They are meant for a tapered ramrod and the gun is fitted with an original period ramrod that is also tapered (down to 1/4" metal ferule). I want to replace the pipes with original type gear. Do you think the original pipes were different sizes to accomodate a tapered rod, or should they be similiar to each other? This is an English style gun, with an under-rib. The pipes are available from TOTW in two sizes.
Can anyone help me out with this question?
