Just received 10lbs of unfiltered beeswax from Debra Bruihler and I'm in the process of filtering it. I plan on making my own bullet/patch lube, protect my metal parts on my muzzle loaders with it and maybe make a candle or two. I know it was used as a gun stock finish once apon a time. What other use's are there for this wonder stuff??

All's I know 'bout it is a poem my Grandpappy would quote to me: When yer kissin yer honey....and you feel sumthin runny.....and you think that it's funny....It'snot !

Strengthens natural fiber threads for sewing leather. (Makes dubbing stick when tying flies).

Seals around lock to barrel gap to keep fouling out of the crack and rubbed around thepan/ frizzen edge contributes to waterproofing the lock.

Fluxes lead when casting balls (all I ever use for that).

Lubricates the mould hinge and mating splines on moulds.

Seals gaps in powderhorn plugs (pitch is better, but . . .)

Smells good.

I use it to coat the inside of my gourd canteens, rub it into leather to help waterproof, mix with olive oil for everything from patch lube to coating my rifle, melt and rub into haversack to make it somewhat waterproof, and more.

Oh, and yes, it smells good.

I've heard some guys go to considerable effort to rub it into their boots for waterproofing purposes, and supposedly works very well.

Regards, sse

Used it once on a Osage bow I made. Probably finish a stock the same way.
With wax warm rub it into the grain best you can, lay wax paper on it and with the wife's iron, iron the wax paper with 3/4 heat and sorta burnish the wax into the wood through the wax paper slightly melting the wax. Repeat until wood refuses to accept any wax. (Now clwean the iron really good and put it away before the wife catches you :shocking:)
Wipe off all the excess wax you can and burnish the wood. (slowly with progresive weight to desired finish)
Works great for sealing the wood pores. With a stickbow, humidity content's control is impotant to avoid string follow. Really brings out the character of the wood.
Anouther (gonna show my age ::) flavor it and chew it like gum to replace the copper penny in your mouth for preventing "dry mouth".

Other uses for beeswax:

Waterproof & Leather Softener
1 oz. (weight) beeswax
8 oz/ (weight) petroleum jelly
Melt the ingredients in a microwave or double boiler. Brush the hot mixture onto the leather and allow it to penetrate. If possible, place the item in hot sun. Polish the leather with a cloth to remove excess waterproofing.

Envelope Sealing Wax
1/2 oz. weight beeswax
3 oz. weight blonde shellac
dry artist's pigment or fresco colors
Melt the beeswax in a microwave. Add the shellac flakes and microwave, stirring every 30 seconds until the mixture is melted (about 2 1/2 minutes total time). Stir in the dry pigment. Judge the amount of pigment to add by the color of the wax. Pour this into molds and let it cool.

Waterproof paper
4 oz. weight beeswax
6 oz. weight alum
1 oz. weight soap
1 quart water
fragrant essential oil (optional)
Combine the ingredients and boil them for 10 minutes. Be sure the beeswax is melted. Dip paper into the hot solution and hang it to dry. Alum is sold in the grocer's spice section.

"............3 oz. weight blonde shellac............"

Which reminds me of the girl who saw the Blond on the other side of the river so she yells "HOW CAN I GET TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE RIVER?"
The blond yells back "YOUR ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE RIVER!!"

The devil and Mooskeetman made me do it.
