I know this proably sounds pretty dumb, but i was sitting around today with nothing to do.Seems my truck decided it needed a clutch.Anyway,I have a camo pup tent that I put up.I noticed it was pretty hot inside,so that got me thinking. How hot is my canvas tarp I use for my reenactments. The outside temp was running about 80F when I started.I laid my thermomter on the ground in the sun and got a temp of 92F(surface temp).I placed it in the pup tent with door and window closed and got a temp of 115F,106F with it all open(mild breeze).I laid the thermomter on the ground under the canvas tarp and it read 80F.I wasn't done yet .I have a PVC tarp thats blue on one side and silver on the other,so for grins I put it over the pup tent with silver side up.It brought the temp with everything closed down to 103F and "open" down to 93F.Once again I wasn't done.I took the silver tarp and set it up by itself silver side up.It was 78F under there. The outside temp had risen to about 85 by then.So I reakon there's alot to reflectiveness .I would think even more if your one of those that paint your teepee with white latex paint.Morel of the story is put your pup in the shade.I guess our fore fathers weren't so backwards after all.Who needs nylon. :results: :hatsoff:
