Recently I came back from a vacation in Texas and stopped to see the Alamo in San Antonio. Very nice experience. I saw displayed a powder horn in a glass case with two rifles and other accutrements, but with the visitors crowded in that display room, I could not get close enough to give the powder horn a good look. I did note that the horn had brass tacks use on it. You are not allowed to take any pictures in the Alamo, so I couldn't even get one. Does anybody have a photo of that powder horn or know anything about it?

Thanks in advance,
Rick

Sent a question about it to my old pal Dennis Heckathrone the Alamo's gunsmith and the guy who restored nearly all the guns needing work there and at the San Jacinto Battleground. If anyone knows, he will. Get back when I hear something.

Send a note to John L. Hinnant, he did post here years ago, if anyone can help you it will be him.
He works with the Alamo group and has deep roots with the group there.

SATX may be able to help as well.

Managed t reach Dennis but, sadly, he's unfamiliar with it. May be from another source of or added since he did the restoration work on their guns. Sorry.

I emailed the Alamo and got a response yesterday. I was told that the gentleman would get back with me on the dimensions. I'll let you know when I hear back from him.

Fwiw, I know of just TWO power-horns that are on permanent display at The Shrine. = Both are "really plain vanilla" & are "very special" only because they were used during The Siege.
One is in The Chapel & the other is in a case at the back of The Long Barracks.

I'll see what else that I can learn for you, soon.

yours, satx
