I just picked up this movie on DVD. If you haven't seen it, I thought it was well worth the 11 bucks I paid.
But looking at Jeff Daniels I couldn't get "Dumb and Dumberer" out of my head. Anyway, I thought he did a great job.

Is it true that Washington's forces didn't suffer a single casualty during the battle with the Hessians at Trenton??

I don't have that problem with Jeff Danials but do have it with Keanu Reeves. I can't get past "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure". I keep expecting him to go "whoa" in the middle of a scene.

Jeff Danials is an excellent actor. It is amazing that he can get from "Dumb and Dumber" to "The Crossing" to "Gettysburg" to "Speed" and do a credible job in each.

As I remember there were a few americans wounded at Trenton but none were killed.

Agreed. I though the film was very well done and Daniels did a fine Washington. I didn't even realize it was the Dumb and Dumber guy until my girlfriend pointed it out to me. I thought the roles of Gen's Glover and Mercer were well done too.

Did he not also play Union Col Chamberlain in Gettysburg? :shocked2: :hmm:

Didnt 2 freeze to death on the march there?

I would have to believe that. I grew up not far from Valley Forge and the Delaware and I remember the Winters. I can't imagine going through what they did, most with light clothing and some without proper shoes...all to face down the Hessians.

They were true heroes.

I would suggest reading the book "Washington's Crossing" by David H. Fischer to get a much better understanding of the Battles of Trenton and Princeton. You'll find that "The Crossing" which is based on the novel by Howard Fast, bears very little resemblance to the facts, and is more myth than reality.

Thanks for the tip! The movie re-kindled my interest in the event, but I always take Hollywood with a grain of salt.

I'll add that book to my list, along with Joseph Plumb Martin.
