I don't know if anyone has brought this series up, so if you have I am sorry.
I wondered what y'all thought? I was very eager to watch....at first. Aside from some historical/costume issues, I couldn't continue to watch. It is GREY and depressing in its cinematography. I wanted to like it, but it was as if there was no sun....

The way I look at it is it's better than nothing. The use of cap locks before their time,frizzens open, missing frizzens and cocks down is typical to Hollywood.
The story was pretty good, maybe it will light a fire!

I started watching it but soon became disgusted. It seems that in order to provide entertainment, the produce/directors decided to change history. Daniel Boone did not have a beard, and did not wear buckskins. He was adopted by the Shawnee chief Blackfish after he was captured. He stayed with the tribe for a year until he escaped back to Boonesbourgh. This re-writing of historical events makes me sick just like tearing down Civil War statues. You can't change history, and if you don'thonor it you are doomed to repeat it.

I watch it each week and finish more ****** off than when I started. Their depiction of the Lewis and Clark Expedition was the worst that I have ever seen. They would have been better off showing some 1980's footage of a children's scout troop climbing Stone Mountain in Atlanta. They could have at least made an effort to get the actors portraying Daniel Boone, Andrew Jackson and the rest to look like them. It is as if they never looked at any period art or portraits. The intent of the creators of this series seems to be to make you ashamed of our founders and to accept the leftist idea that the creation of this country is illegitimate and not worthy of being celebrated. The truth is that American Indian tribes (yeah, that's right, I didn't say Native Americans) were at war with one another WAY before whitey came along and were more than anxious to get ahold of the white man's technology and weapons to give them the upper hand in the fight. I'd rather watch Star Wars. At least what you see is SUPPOSED to be a fantasy. :td:

Watched a few episodes and for the most part, I enjoyed it. Andrew Jackson was portrayed as a real s.o.b. which soured me on his character. I did get a giggle when I saw the magic flintlocks that fired with the frizzen open............Chawbeef

I was very intrigued when I saw the commercials announcing the series. Then I found out who the executive producer was and became less optimistic. Ultimately, I was not surprised by the (lack of) quality and accuracy....

This series was filmed in New Zealand. That's why the forests do not look correct, and the re-enactors are not dressed right or carry the right weaponry. Just saw a great documentary on Daniel Boone that was done by a historian over three years using the original places and local re-enactors. Much, much better than the Frontiersmen episode on Boone.

The most glaring disregard for detail was last night when Kit Carson was fighting off the Mexicans in the desert and using his flintlock like a repeating rifle. :nono:
If Davy would have had a couple of those repeating flintlocks at the Alamo he could have lived and taken Mexico City. :surrender:

Anything that you portray as history, there should be a serious effort to be as accurate as possible, or don't attempt it at all.
Even the telling of the events are not accurate, and unfortunate that most who watch will take this series as gospel.

I missed the first episode and have not missed any since. While I am enjoying the show, like most films, videos, etc., are pretty lame when it comes to representing what really happened. I, too, saw Mr. Carson with his rapid fire assault style muzzle loading flintlock long rifle and was appalled that such a thing was allowed to be owned by the general populace. Especially being in California where just thinking of such a weapon of war will get you 20 years to life depending on which diaper the presiding judge is wearing at the time of sentencing. As Senator Feinstein will tell you, "those weapons can not be used for hunting or defending yourself."

Seriously now, I am watching because my nephew asked me to and I like the scenery and the occasional horses, the clothing, the guns, the cannons, the time period. But, it being a Hollywood production one cannot expect historical accuracy, after all, it is all in their imagination, a.k.a. Fake News.
