I visited the Confederate Naval Museum in Columbus Ga. Had the remains of a Confederate ironclad, a piece of the Monitor hull and they fired several large naval guns. Great trip. Lots of interactive displays. It must have been extremely hot, cramped and smoky inside those things.

I also live in Mobile Al where the CSA Hunley was made. Would love to get to the Warren Lasch Conservation Center in Charleston to visit it.

There is a full size steel model of the Hunley that travels around parts of the country. It will be at a reenactment near Hurricane, WV this weekend. It's just a few miles from me. I might go see it again.

I'm a hill boy myself, but I've always been interested in early ships and war at sea. A couple of years ago I obtained several good books at a library sale that cover CW sea battles and blockade running. Very good reading.
