What is a totem pole for?
vc22.jpg

In general, totem poles, just like Great Seals and Coats of Arms mean: "This is who we are; we have prestige, we are united, and we are proud to derive from, fight for, and stand for the qualities these symbols imply."

The Pacific Northwest Native people also used these poles to symbolized where they stood within a big family grouping, not just a mother, father, sister, brother, but within a whole clan of relatives.

Any more thoughts on their usage?

this is funny, When I was stationed here at Fort Benning, we used to have guard duty at the National Infantry museum we carried the M16 until one of the guys got too stoned and shot the Totem pole in front of the museum, since then we had to pull the duty with a maddox handle.
