This one's pretty but odd

The shape of the stock and the S shaped side plate looks French to me. Early British or Dutch barrel with tang screw from underneath. Lock is an original but might not be original to this musket. It is a fabulous fit if it isn't. Barrel is a reconversion. Large caliber so I'm thinking military not trade fusil. That trigger guard...I got nothing. What do y'all think?

It's beautiful. Too bad the stock is in such poor shape. It looks like it was magnificent wood at one time. Gluing might give disappointing results with something like that.

In talking to others more knowledgeable than I am, a New England parts gun using some Dutch parts, stocked in maple. Just what I like. I’ll PM asking for dimensions. I’d love to build one like this.

I think it has beautiful lines, the way the stock curves from the forestock to the butt complimented by the curved cheek piece.

Sam- You have a great early Fusil! Im looking how the barrel tang screw comes up to screw into the barrel tang rather than screws down- (wow, there is no trigger plate!)
kind of an early method I think?
I would love to shoulder that gun and see how it feels.
Is the iron ramrod original to the piece?

For those more knowledgeable than I, my first thought was this was a Fusil de Chasse. The stock shape and side plate made me think this. I assumed it may have been made from a musket barrel, as it has the appearance and a metal ramrod.
What more should I be noting in trying to figure out this weapon?

Neat historical firearm !!
After 60+ years collecting some early guns like yours have no specific pedigree / label other than being a neat colonial era firearm.
As Daryl states it certainly does have the attractive lines of a Fusil de Chasse & I suspect a frontier gun builder used parts available & hand forged the unique hardware.
