Looks good to me. As great as the sheath looks, it may be over done for early American portrayal.

Can't say for sure as to its actual age. But it's neat looking, both the knife and sheath. Not a bad price either.

It looks like an Argentine Facón. As Tom said, Gaucho is a traditional name for the Argentine Cowboys. They would carry the facón in the small of their back tucked behind their belt.

I missed the knife edge measurements earlier. The Facón was more of a large fighting/butcher knife. This is more of what they would call a asado “grilling” knife.

This is an interesting thread. Since we are discussing South American knives I want to post this picture. This is a Brazilian muladero, a Brazilian cowboy. He carries a similar knife in a very unusual sheath. Has anyone seen this before? Anyone have an idea why this would be practical? I have seen several like this, seems to be very common to this region. I tried researching this and found nothing.

Not sure on this one. I have connections in many of the South American countries but sadly not Brazil.
