I was given a large broken band saw blade to which i added cold rolled mild steel in a ratio of three mild to two band saw then forged them into a billet,
I then divided them into three, working each piece differently , then worked each one to form a knife blade. Never thought of counting the folds,
(you forget when your having fun)

The sheaths in England were no doubt influenced by the Vikings. If you are interested i was asked to make a copy of a set of writing tablets which were found in York (8th 9th century) these were held in a small leather case,I will try to find them and post a picture,(if its ok to post)

OK ,(these are my copies)
First a little background,On archaeology dig in York (UK)on the site of a 8th /9th century house they discovered the remains of several items which were very well preserved due to the ideal soil conditions, most were bags & purses it was thought that these were the ill gotten gains of a thief (or cut purse)as all the straps on the bags & purses had been deliberately cut and were berried under the floor,After a lot of painstaking work they discovered a small leather case (1.5"x2")which contained a set of writing tablets made of box wood & coated with bee's wax.

The tablets are 2mm thick ,six are double sided & two are single which form the outer covers and have .5mm of bee's wax,(the green colour is verdigre which we think was use to brighten the image.)
if you have any questions on the construction I will try my best to answer.

There was some writing on several tablets, the best translation came to the conclusion that one passage was part of a love sonnet the rest a shopping list.
(perhaps it was an early type of diary )
