I'm just curious if anyone has ordered a stock from this supplier? If so, how is their quality when compared to the stocks of some of the other suppliers like Pecatonica, TOTW or TVM? The URL is below. Thanks.

I've gotten some blanks from him at Dixons over the years. He usually has some real dence maple. As with most suppliers you have to watch the grain through the wrist as they cut for yield not nessasarly the best grain flow but he's one of the better in that regaurd.
I've never gotten a pre carved as I don't use them.

I also purchased two full blanks from them, I liked them, no problems, I also bought them at Dixon's 10 years ago, I just use another supplier now. One note here, sugar maple is alot denser than red maple, and alot heavier.A friend had a 44 inch Hoit barrelbuilt into a sugar maple stock, with a 14&1/2 inch trigger pull. Well that there rifle is HEAVY, not weighing them ,but hefting them from a 44 inch colerain barrel built into a RED MAPLE stock with a 13& 3/4 inch trigger pull the difference is at least two - three pounds. He's reluctant about shooting it, because of it's weight... It is heavy

kmeyer,
I've used one of his stocks before. It was the TN now belonging to 750k2. It was a top flight piece of wood in my opinion. I have another on order now. I'll let ya know how that turns out in a couple of weeks. I have seen plenty from Pecatonica and they are nice as well. Don;t forget Wayne Dunlap if he has the pattern your looking for. He has real nice wood as well.

Thanks for the info all. Does Wayne Dunlap have a web site? I searched a little without luck.

I've had wood from Dunlap, Tiger Hunt, Maple Leaf Hardwoods, and Freddie Harrison. The wood from Dunlap was beautiful, but always quite soft. Tiger Hunt's wood is quite hard, but I haven't cut the blank. The wood from Maple Leaf Hardwoods was "mealy." Harrison's wood is super hard and beautifully figured. I'd say Harrison's "da man!" Here's a pic of Harrison's blank.

No. Freddie is not up to computer speed. Freddie mostly knows wood! Call him up and chat with him sometime. He had fine wood at the CLA show. Most of it was not wide enough for my projects but it was the finest stump-cut curly maple you'd ever want.

Here's my first flinter built from a blank from Freddie in 1978. It was a very inexpensive blank, hard as a rock.

I recently bought a very nice thick blank from Dunlap that is quite hard, has good curl, and works very well. It's as good a piece of maple as I've ever worked and is perfectly flat and square. I need to get back to working it!

I consider both Wayne Dunlap and Freddie Harrison as friends, and I have several weapons stocked with wood from both. The most beautiful English Walnut that I've seen is on my little flint double, and Wayne personally selected it for me.My little .32cal squirrel rifle by H.House/Ric Lambert is stocked in striped maple that Freddie cut for me,and you will never see a more beautiful tight grain stump-cut piece of maple on any weapon. My latest is a .40cal Gillespie Southern Mountain Rifle, and it's stocked with maple from Freddie that rivals that on my .32cal.

Either of these two sources are excellent.

Beautiful gun, Rich. Your sure did nice work on your first - the one's that came after must be something to see.
How about some details on this beauty? Caliber, twist or smooth, whose barrel?
You're probably tired of having that one around so why don't you send it off to me?
