getting everything ready to do my bag and have my pattern cut out already with the 1/4" added fer the seam....my main question is do i fold over the edges of the front flap and the strips fer the d-rings fer the strap and hem them or leave them flat....i'm going to use pillow ticking on the inside of the bag and flap so i'm thinking they need to be hemmed...........bob

Sew the D ring strips either flat or saddle stitch them or you can whip stitch them, as far as the edge of the bag, truning over a hen and stitchn it would probably be a B#$ch! you may consider cutting a 1 inch strip of thinner leather and doing an egde band, after you stitch that, you can trim the strip smaller if you'ld like, hope this helaps, beav

Do the thin strip of leather method.
I tried the fold over
hem on a practice piece
before I finished my last bag, it was no good. :shake:
I couldn't get it look very good either.

I tried the thin leather "binding"
and it worked much better.
It is the same leather as the
body of the bag but I took
a skever (spelling) to it
and made it about half the
original thickness.
Here is what it looks like.

what stitching is that around the flap with the edge piece added....is that where two needles go in and out opposite of each other....i guess the d-ring straps are just left without the hem also "flat".............bob

Yes, it's called a saddle stitch. Two needles and linen thread.

That's how I did my D rings, could come up with anything else (I was tired)
