toe plate nails?

i asked a question on where to get proper toe plate screws. i ordered them hand have them on the way. this is my 17th Kibler and about 10 of them have been SMR and i have put toe plates on them all. i was just thinking, have there been any known original SMR with nails to hold on the toe plate? maybe a dumb question but just curious as i have saw nailed on but plates.

I've seen butt plate nails but the butt plate is always being forced back into the wood by recoil so it wouldn't come loose. A toe plate is hanging out there in the wind so I don't think nails would secure it over a lifetime of use.
