At our local club's BP league competition on Sunday one of my friends shows me his Walker revolver after he'd fired three cylinder's worth of balls through it. It was turning almost like it hadn't yet been fired! I asked him what he was using for lubrication and he told me he used the grease off of a wax seal that you would use for a toilet bowl installation :shocked2: . Needless to say I was amazed! Any of you folks ever hear of such a thing? It was really turning nice...but I don't know just what's in the goop, if you know what I mean!

Still amazed,

Dave

thats a new one on me 'smokin' but having installed my share of crappers I can see as it would do good. I use Vaseline on the cylinder pin myself and Go-Jo white on the conical slugs I shoot and the felt wads under.

In the old days that toilet bowl wax was beeswax. Now it's some synthetic stuff. I had been hesitant to try it for fear of it being petroleum based. I'm curious how his bore fares.

I can see the headline now:

LOCAL SHOOTER WAXES THE COMPETITION AT LOCAL SHOOT!!!
At the local pistol shooting match Sunday, Fred Winkenatt used his Black Powder Revolver to beat the State Police. He said "Ye could say ah shot rings around them!.

:rotf:  :rotf:

zonie :)

Also, he doesn't use it in the chambers of the cylinder, so I don't know how much is getting into the bore.

Zonie,

Around here, beating the Police at a shooting competition really isn't that hard to do, except for the rare few who actually shoot competitively alongside us civilians at several of the action disciplines such as PPC, Static Steel, Knock-Down Steel, IPSC, IDPA, etc.

I don't know if you guys are aware of the last couple of Police shootings here in NJ. They unfortunately were the result of "Friendly Fire".

The headline about waxing the Police was a good one :rotf:   .

Let us not forget that any one of us is probably a better shot than most users of modern firearms. After all, we're USED to shooting with a handicap! Give us one of those new-fangled repeaters, and we do darn well.
Once we get used to the absence of a pan flash, of course.

Ahh, I had assumed you meant he used it as chamber lube. I had seen this discussed a few times in the past and had no info to go on other than the fact that it's synthetic. I'm still curious about using it over the balls. Maybe some day I'll try it if I remember to pick some up when I'm at the hardware store.

I wouldnt worry about using it. Its Parafin thats thinned with sometning. Probably petroleum. But if it works? I believe I'll try some. I figure so what if it builds up tar. I always clean the gun anyway. I may have to use a solvent to get out the tar. Its not like the tar troubles of a patched round ball rifle............Bob
