Hello All; I need a little info If Anybody has A Toledo Arms 12 Ga. Drop in Barrel for a T/C Renegade. I just Won one of these barrels on GunBroker.com And was wondering if any of You have one and Your tested safe loads for it. As it is used there is no paperwork about load info. I want to keep My hatrack all in one piece and need to know if 90 grains of FFg Goex and an ounce and a quarter of #6 lead shot will be safe. That is about as heavy as I will proably need to shoot out of it. Any Help Ya'll that have one could give Me will be much appreaciated. THANKS ADC Trapper

You can shoot that load, but it probably won't pattern very well at all, unless the barrel is choked. 90 grains is 3 1/4 Drams, with your 1 1/4 oz of shot I suspect the pattern will be a bit open. Those are even volumes of shot, and while that works okay with lighter loads, when you get that much powder working behind the shot, the patterns tend to open. Try a 3/4 ratio of powder to shot for better patterns.

I've got a similar barrel I picked up NOS. Mine is a little thinner as it's a 15/16 octagon to round. The bore appered to be chromed and was an extra full choke (0.690). There was the original packaging, paperwork and proof certificate. The barrel was proofed to 700 kilogram-force/square centimeter (9 956 pound/square inch). This is much below the max loads I've seen published for 12 ga in the Lyman handbook, they are ca. 2/3 of the proof load so it should handle most loads. I don't have the manual handy but will post a few loads with pressures from Lyman when I get home.

I'm still working out a load for my barrel. I just got a 3/4 inch punch to make some cards up ( a real deal at $4) and the wads it cuts seem to fit the barrel nicely. I hope to have my turkey load settled upon for our fall season (Oct 29-Nov 30). I'm currently fooling around with hardened #5 shot (3% antimony) and a variety of card/wad combos over FFg. I post on this thread again when I have the winner.

happy hunting!!!

The lyman handbook lists loads for a 27 in 12 ga barrel w/improved cyl. No loads even with 102gr FFg and 1 1/2 ounces of #6 exceeded 6300 psi. I think your 90 gr loads should be O.K. as long as the prior owner did not abuse the barrel.
