So I’ve had a few smooth bores over the years, for some reason or another I ended up selling them. Well, I made a deal with another forum member here, for yet another Fowler, this one’s from Jackie Brown. It had a few small issues that I took care of this morning, one was the pan wasn’t flush with the barrel, the other was the forestock was loose from the barrel. Initially I thought the lug had came loose, it turned out to be a bent pin, I cleaned the internals of the lock and lightly oiled them. Then I went to work on the gap between the pan and the barrel, it’s not perfect yet, but it’s much better. I’d say that this one of Jackie’s better builds and the overall construction is pretty spot on. I’ll be measuring the bore with calipers tomorrow to see what the ball mold will be. I’m really excited to fire this off, the L&R lock seems to shower sparks into the pan very nicely.
