We all have items we purchased quite a while ago that could be sold for considerably more than the amount we purchased them for. However the value of the US dollar has declined so much that even if we got twice the amount of what we paid, are really ahead of the game?

I don't plan on selling anything that I consider valuable...unless I have to do so to eat!

I agree. I refer to current $ as "inflatobux"

Thank you or your kind words. Yeah inflation is killing all of us crafters. The big box stores are feeling the crunch too, but they just pass it on to us.
If I tried to do that, I'll be forced to give up. I've tried not to change my prices, but at the very least I have to up my shipping charges due to the USPS playing games. That doesn't help me at all when my supply costs go up by 5% every 6 months from inflation. I barely break even on shipping these days? I'm not going to start using cheap, inferior parts just because they cost less. That's not fair to my customers OR my reputation.
If you need anything email me. You have my email address.
God bless and thank you for your business:

Hi Dave,

Inflation is hitting everyone. I think I speak for all your other customers in recommending you DO raise your prices to cover you actual costs.

None of us expect you to sell at a loss, or just break even with zero profit for your time.

You do great work and I’d rather see you continue at higher prices than quit because you’re loosing money on each sale.

Just my 2 cents.

Haunt old junk yards, especially ones with old farm machinery. I have two knives made by Herschal House they were made out of hay rake tines, hold an edge sharp enough to shave with. The older the machinery the better the steel. Now of days for most projects I do I become a scrounger first.
I have a bunch of old mower blades, files, leaf and coil springs. I always see old files and tools for sale cheap in junk stores.

The last time I spent money for forging steel it was $65. Now this last order it was almost $125. I'll make do with what I have now as the steel prices have gotten stupid. Mostly to blame is China, Russia and especially Ukraine. These issues have driven up the prices of everything .... food, gas steel, etc.

Actually it's speculators that have driven the prices up over the above fears, my problem is that after whatever excuse they used is over and the prices start declining they never fall to the original starting prices.
Damn profiteers.

The only resort we have is NOT to buy overpriced stuff or do without. Am seeing this work somewhat on some of the products i normally buy. And I agree Price comes down but not to pre bidet levels.

I have cut back on driving and shopping for necessities only. In the last year if not working I might go several days and never see the highway. Gonna be home for several days now due to string beans coming off. Pressure canned 7qts and 3qts to freezer today, looks to be repeat tomorrow.

Same here, my truck sits for a week or two when I’m at the camp. I bring perishables with me, always have plenty of non perishables on hand. My wife doesn’t mind cause when I’m here I don’t spend any money! Plus my pole beans are doing great and need picking every other day and tomatoes and squash. Still have blackberries producing too. I’m happy staying right here with the main gate pad locked.

Its weird that places like zillow predict another 5-7% increase in home prices/value but every existing house has been reduced and new listings are very scarce.

I don’t see how any young couple starting out can afford a house at the current prices and interest rates. My Wife was showing me some home prices in our little Louisiana town. I was speechless. Prices through the roof for small, old houses. And I’m talking 450k for a small frame houses, most of which are over 100 years old! Crazy!

They can't is the answer. Worse yet a Fed subsidized low cost housing project here is rumored to be for immigrants only.

Though I agree with everything said here I believe there are a lot of opportunists out there taking advantage of the current situation. I spend a lot of time between my home in NY and the house I bought just before the pandemic in NH. The prices of things between the two are staggering! My dream of retiring to NH looks like it’s out the window. New England has always been a bit more expensive because they are off the beaten track or pretend to be but they raise cattle there and other the prices of meat are double. Explain that to me in addition there meats are of lower quality IMO. I’m going to unload it after the election if I don’t see costs coming down; they are forcing more on food stamps. I’ll go somewhere else that is somewhat a free state. So far the property taxes have held which were not cheap to begin with but groceries and other are out of control there. What they are doing to one another is obvious. I’m paying $3.77 for Diesel on Long Island and you don’t have to search that hard. There 4.10 is a bargainin NH. Not sure whose state fuel taxis higher but I suspect NY maybe. Forget fuel oil buy it now or spend your savings to barely heat your home. Of course the numbskull Brandon screwed us and is the blame for inflation with all his giveaways but there’s those many IMO that are just greedy. Darn I hope the barrel makers are not buying CCP steal but they may have no choice. Steel has been a issue price wise for years once the CCP got the manufacturing going. Black pipe 4years ago the cost of CCP steal was 1/4 the price of US pipe. I experienced this myself. Can’t imagine the cost difference today. But that’s what you get with slave labor and $77 a week salaries.
