Good morning.
I was wondering if there are any of you that have built this rifle in its kit form. If so, is it a good project for a beginner? I was entertaining getting the Northwest Trade rifle, but it apparently only comes with a smoothbore barrel and I'm looking for a rifle barrel project.
Thanks,
Steve

MBS, and Pecatonica also sell this kit also, and they offer more wood choices. Check em out. I have'nt built one yet , but am in the process of getting the parts, that is the lock and stock. It is one of the easier ones, in that there is no decorative carving to be done, no hooked breech, barrel is pinned, and a patchbox is an option. The fullscock will be easier than the halfstock, as it is pinned, and no underlug to deal with. I have a 175 year old or there abouts barrel being rebored to .58 by Ed Rayl I will use on mine. The correct stock would be plain maple, but I'm leaninig towards a curly ash stock from Pecatonica, and am planning on trying to blacksmith my own hardware for it. That being said , I would go for it. Using the L&R late english lock allows you to make it convertile flint to perc. also. Remember though that these kits, are just a collection of parts, with no instructions,(not trying to scare ya) you will also need a book or two, Pec offers a discount on the book, and drawings to go with it Bill
