I just attended the Alafia River Rendezvous in Florida.

I made these two Buffalo powder horns, one a primer horn and the other the powder horn.[in this photo horns are not finished]

I layed them out on a blanket but could not sell them, So! I took them around with me and I traded them for two brain Tanned deer hides.

I plan on making other stuff to trade at next years Rendezvous. Do any of you guys trad stuff at gatherings or do you just try to sell stuff?

Why dont more people trade rather then sell?

Well, FWIW, at my last event I needed some buckskin to make some new moccasins. I traded a trekker's skillet for the materials and some quick instruction to make my first pair, so I guess I do some trading :)

I do alot of trading.
At most of the vous` around here, come Saturday night someone will call a Round Robin or Blanket trade and deals can be struck there or just keep an ear an eye out and ask.
Funny thing is most folks that set up as "Traders" want nothing but cash an darn few of'm get my cash now-a-days, I don't begrudge a man some profit but I can't stand to listen to folks brag on their money making either.
Just keep in mind;
You can Fleece a Sheep once a year, but you can only skin it once.

I traded a .54 cal. rifle for a full time night woman a few years ago. I'm still with her but don't miss that gun at all.

Good trade. I prefer to trade. Money is nice, but barter brings an element of guile and skill....

I went to a vous one time with the ultimate trader. At the blanket trade, he traded another man's jug of hooch for something, I don't remember what it was, but anyway, he ended up with whatever that trinket was, as well as somehow getting the jug passed back to him and finishing it off. :rotf:

I love to trade when I dont need cash for supplies. My favorite is to trade with the young bucks, especially when they really want or need something, but dont really have a lot in trade. I enjoy blessing them with what I make. We do round robins that way too.

But hey if someone will take a nice leather pouch for sonething I REALLY want I love to trade!!

I tried trading my wifes neice for a good gun a few years back (cute young thing from the Philippines), but she ran away and I couldn't catch her in time. Ask No Deer about it.
