Hello everyone, I need some help. I have a Lyman GPR that I would like to add an aperture sight to but I want the sight to at least look like it belongs on a traditional muzzleloader. Can anyone recommend such a sight?

Thanks for the help.

TOTW has some aperture sights that are copied fromn the 1860's and on, the Lyman GPR 57 is made for that gun but lacks and connection with any peeps that may have been used on such a gun, the Lyman Tang sight is patterned after a 1878 type as are most of the Rifle smith sights by Axtell Rifle company, you may have to look elsewhere or get creative and make an aperture sight that wsould fit in the time frame of the LGP, most just use the modern type and figure a peep is a peep...you will have to decide where to set your standards for authenticity. Vendors are generaly a poor choice of un-biased factual info on early aperture sights used on ML's, it is an individual choice as to whether one uses modern sights and connical bullets that are out of sinc with their trdaitional styled ML, good luck, some folks make them and maybe they will chime in here shortly.

TOTW carries an "open peep" sight which I put on my GPR. I browned the sight as I did my barrel and I think it looks just fine. My intent was not so much authenticity but a peep sight for old eyes and it worked.

Thanks. The TOTW sights look good, certainly worth trying. Looks like they have front sights as well.

This might be a big help for my old eyes. That Mississippi rifle has the rear sight way too close for my eyesight without the "cheaters" on...

Just a thought and I might be off base. How about a buckhorn rear sight that has the horns almost touching. It may have a larger "aperature" than what your looking for, but it might look good on your plains rifle. I might really be out in left field, it was just a thought but I have not finished my first cup of coffee yet and thats how my mind works when I'm de-caffinated :surrender:
